Itaglip 50mg contains Sitagliptin, an oral anti-diabetic medication from the DPP-4 inhibitor class. It is used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, either as monotherapy (when diet and exercise alone are insufficient) or in combination with other anti-diabetic agents like metformin or sulfonylureas. Sitagliptin works by increasing the body's own levels of incretin hormones, which stimulate insulin release and reduce glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. Effective Glucose Control: Lowers HbA1c and helps manage fasting and post-meal blood sugar levels. Low Risk of Hypoglycemia: Works in a glucose-dependent manner, making severe low blood sugar unlikely when used alone. Weight-Neutral: Generally does not cause weight gain.
