Lacasil is a laxative provided in single-dose sachets, each containing 10g of Lactitol Monohydrate, a synthetic disaccharide sugar alcohol. It is used for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation and for the prevention and treatment of hepatic encephalopathy (a brain disorder caused by liver dysfunction). Lactitol works as an osmotic laxative by drawing water into the colon, softening stools, and promoting bowel movements. It is not absorbed by the body and is broken down by colonic bacteria into acids that help reduce ammonia absorption in hepatic encephalopathy. Effective for Chronic Constipation: Provides gentle, predictable relief by softening stools and stimulating bowel movements. Treatment for Hepatic Encephalopathy: Helps reduce ammonia levels in the blood for patients with liver disease.
