Izato 500mg contains Nitazoxanide, an antiparasitic and antiviral agent. It is used for the treatment of diarrhea caused by specific parasites Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum in adults and children. It also has antiviral activity and is used in some regions for the treatment of viral gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus and norovirus. Nitazoxanide works by interfering with the energy metabolism of the parasites/viruses.
