The CoaguChek XS System is a portable, handheld blood coagulation monitoring system designed for professional use in clinics and for patient self-testing at home. Its primary function is to measure Prothrombin Time (PT) and report it as an International Normalized Ratio (INR) value. This is crucial for patients on long-term anticoagulation therapy with Vitamin K Antagonists, like warfarin (Coumadin®). Key Features and Benefits Small Blood Volume Requires only 8 microliters of blood. This is a very small drop, typically obtained from a fingerstick, making the process almost painless. Speed Provides accurate results in less than one minute. Ease of Use: Simple process with clear visual and audio prompts from the meter, making it suitable for a wide range of users, including the elderly. No Coding Required The test strips are pre-calibrated. The meter automatically reads the calibration data from the strip, eliminating a potential source of user error and ensuring accuracy. Quality Control (QC) The meter performs electronic quality checks every time it's turned on and with every test. It also supports the use of liquid QC solutions to ensure the entire system (meter and strips) is working correctly. Data Management The meter can store previous test results with date and time stamps. For more advanced management, it can connect to the CoaguChek Patient Card and CoaguChek Link software for data transfer to a healthcare professional. How to use Prepare Wash hands, insert a test strip into the meter (which turns it on), and load the lancing device. Prick: Use the lancing device on the side of a fingertip to draw a small drop of blood. Apply Touch the tip of the test strip to the edge of the blood drop. The meter will beep and automatically draw the blood into the strip. Result
