It inhibits hepatic glucose production and enhances peripheral glucose disposal thereby reducing blood-glucose concentration. It also inhibits lipolysis thereby preventing the formation of ketone bodies. Patients with Type I diabetes mellitus. Patients with Type II diabetes mellitus either alone or in combination with oral anti-diabetic agents. Patients with gestational diabetes. Emergency management of diabetic ketoacidosis.
