Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that increases urination, reducing fluid retention and lowering blood pressure by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the distal tubule of the kidneys. Used for controlling high blood pressure (hypertension). Used to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems. Used to treat hypertension in patients who may have difficulty tolerating other blood pressure medications. Used to improve blood flow and reduce strain on the heart and arteries. Used to manage fluid retention and edema associated with hypertension.
