Duvel Plus is a fixed‑dose combination tablet containing Sitagliptin (50 mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride (1000 mg). It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both sitagliptin and metformin is appropriate. Sitagliptin, a DPP‑4 inhibitor, works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones (GLP‑1 and GIP), which stimulate insulin release and decrease glucagon in a glucose‑dependent manner. Metformin, a biguanide, reduces hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. This dual mechanism helps lower both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels. The product is intended for patients not adequately controlled on metformin alone, or for those already receiving the combination of sitagliptin and metformin as separate tablets.
